The stately, seventeen floor landmark building – known in 1912 as the world's tallest apartment building - located on the northeast corner of Park Avenue and 79th street in Manhattan has housed a practice of oral and maxillofacial surgeons from its inception to this day. The generations of surgeons have made their mark with their diagnostic skills, technical excellence, dedication to teaching future surgeons as well as dental and medical colleagues and commitment to pro bono services to the disadvantaged. The practice began with Dr. Theodore Blum a renowned oral surgeon and one of the pillars of the surgical community. He was a founder of the New York Institute of Clinical Oral Pathology, the laboratory of which was situated in our office. Dr. Blum was eventually joined by Dr. Stanley J. Behrman, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon who served as Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the New York Hospital for fifty-five years. As with Dr. Blum and Dr. Behrman before them, Dr. Arthur C. Elias, Dr. Andrew J. Hauser and Dr. Richard L. Elias utilize the hospital environment to perform major reconstructive surgery of the facial bones, the joints and nerves and the private office to provide all of the diagnostic and ambulatory procedures from removal of impacted teeth to biopsy and surgical removal of soft tissue and bony lesions. Insertion of dental implants has, in many cases, become the standard of care for dental rehabilitation. Drs. Elias, Hauser and Elias employ their extensive surgical skills to make implantation, and the bone grafting often needed accommodate the implants, efficient and comfortable. The commitment to excellent patient care, teaching and community remains a hallmark of our practice.
